Spring season means baseball field prep time for the Naselle Sports Club. Our youth baseball field is usually booked solid between March 1 - June 20ish between baseball, softball and t-ball teams trying to squeeze in practices when the rain clouds give us a break. We threw together a last-minute work party weekend when schedules aligned for Cody Pierson to bring his equipment in and some amazing helpers like Ryan, Kevin and Brian to measure base locations and Damian to haul out loads of soil from the infield extension. On day two the work party grew to over 35 people showing up to pull weeds, rake, and scrub counters at the concessions stand. The sun was shining and we all earned hot dogs grilled up by Brian Wisdom and the kids had lots of time to play "king of the mountain" after their hard work prepping the field.
The rest of Saturday was busy with Derick Frank spreading with his skid steer, Brian Wisdom bringing his tractor and implements to mix in the different field materials and all the guys asking to take turns on the equipment while the wives shook their heads and laughed. The kids played baseball in the grass until the sun went down and everyone went home to come back Sunday and wrap up grading and smoothing everything out with a roller. While the field was getting worked on Sunday, the concessions stand cleanup was underway with our Concessions Liaison, Marijane Anderson and her helpers. A new water heater was installed, thanks to Wesley, we have a brand-new refrigerator that the Sports Club purchased this season, along with a new hot dog roller to help feed all the hungry spectators. The number of supporters over the two weekends combined was amazing to see, and thanks to everyone's generosity with their time and equipment we have our youth baseball field and concession stand ready for Spring 2026! The Naselle Junior Comets volleyball team is closing out their season with a final away game against Clatskanie on Tuesday, October 21. It’s been a fun and rewarding season for this group of 4th–6th grade girls, who’ve spent the past few months building friendships and sharpening their volleyball skills. Coaches Annie Herrold and Sylvia Hoagland, who also happen to be sisters (and moms to players on the team), say it’s been a joy coaching such a positive and hardworking group of young athletes. “These girls are eager to learn, encourage one another, and really challenge themselves,” said the coaches. “It’s been such a pleasure watching them grow.”
Beyond the court, the team showed their community spirit through a “Fill in Your Volleyball” fundraiser, collecting donations to support the Naselle Youth Sports Club. The funds help cover the costs of uniforms, equipment, and ensure that local youth sports remain accessible for all families, keeping financial barriers a non-issue. To celebrate the end of a successful season, the team is gathering for a pizza party and pin-decorating event, where they’ll craft custom pins to give to the Clatskanie players as a gesture of good sportsmanship during their final game. It’s the perfect ending to a season that’s been about more than just volleyball; it’s been about teamwork, growth, and community pride. Okay, confession time: I’ve never been to Turkey Bingo before. I know, I know… how have I lived in the Naselle area this long (15 years) and not experienced this famous community tradition? But this year is my year, and I’m ridiculously excited. Our Naselle Sports Club is hosting the annual Turkey Bingo fundraiser, and it's the perfect way to kick off the holiday season. The doors open at 5pm, so you can get in and get hot food from concessions and a seat before bingo starts at 5:30. Here’s what I know so far about the big event:
Here's how I would schedule my evening, if I were you.... *Cue whimsical daydream music...Pick up some goodies from the bake sale or dinner at concessions, place a couple bids in the silent auction, and then settle in with your stack of bingo cards for a shot at bringing home a turkey AND a cool prize. Honestly, even if you don’t win a thing, it's going to be worth it for the laughs seeing the Sports Club President Ryan and VP Katie dressed up as Pat Sajak and Vanna White slinging bingo balls! So, if you’ve never been like me, or you’re a seasoned Turkey Bingo pro, come join the fun! Let’s fill the Naselle School Commons with laughter, friendly competition, and the sweet smell of baked goods. I’ll see you there - probably with powdered sugar on my face.
